Breakaway tire update : now USDAA regulation

"The USDAA has just made the Smith training equipment breakaway tire  or safety tire regulation with a minor change. The magnets will be replaced with stronger magnets that meet the USDAA specifications. USDAA regulation tires will be available by the the end of July  2010.  Harold Smith of Smith training equipment invented the self closing tire in 1997. The design has been in use for several years and has proven to be safe and durable piece of equipment. Buy direct from the inventor to make sure you get the original safety tire. "

" Update  U.S.D.A.A.   20" tire with 18 lb magnets  Aug. 2010  .  I have completed and tested several 20" USDAA tires with the new 18 lb magnets required by the USDAA . The force necessary to open the tire is greater than the magnets I previously used but my opinion is that it's not strong enough to damage the tire or cause problems for the dogs. Thanks HS  dog-equipment.com  "

The Smith safety tire is designed to be a safe alternative to other tires. The safety tire opens when hit by a dog and closes again when the dog passes through. The safety tire is very light weight and is designed to open easily even on slight impacts. It is made from a light weight water proof foam that is firm enough to withstand abuse and soft enough not to injure smaller dogs. The tire has been in used and tested in Canada by several clubs in trials and classes for almost 2 years . They were used in the BC/Yukon regional in 2007 and they will be used again in the regional in 2008 . With a few modifications The safety tire can fit to any frame. They are available in red and yellow or red and blue.
